| Due
to a zoning issue raised, we suspect, by a competing
veterinarian or store, the Well Pets clinic
at the Carmel Petco on 116th street has to be
shut down immediately. Therefore, as of April
21st 2009 there will be no more clinics at that
location. All Well Pets clients previously served
at that locations are advised to go to the clinics
at the Michigan
Rd. Petco, the
Fishers Petco, the North
Keystone Avenue Petco (71st and Keystone)
or the Noblesville Pet
Supplies Plus.
A veterinary clinic has been performed at this
Carmel Store for over 6 years, so why all of
a sudden it is a concern is a mystery to all
of us. However, due to a technicality in Carmel's
fairly complicated zoning restrictions, that
store, unlike all of Petco's other stores, is
not zoned properly for having a veterinary wellness
clinic, even though it is zoned for housing
and selling animals of many kinds and has a
grooming facility on site. It appears that getting
a variance from the Zoning Board is a very expensive
and complicated process and one that Petco does
not feel is worth the expense and hassle. Complaints
or concerns can be addressed to the Carmel Zoning
Board as well as the Carmel store itself. We
are attempting to see if there is a less expensive
way to resolve this, but are not optimistic
at this point.
