Dr. Scott Emch:

Scott is originally from New City, New York, a suburb 25 miles northwest of New York City (it’s why he talks so fast, although his accent has pretty well been lost after going to undergraduate college at Virginia Tech 1981-85, then going to vet school at Purdue from 1985-89 and staying here since!).

Scott enjoys dermatology and educating clients on wellness care. He enjoys his clients and their pets immensely and has a somewhat laid back approach to veterinary medicine (although his staff would argue that this is the only place where he and the phrase “laid back” could ever coexist!). Scott enjoys harassing and being harassed by his staff - he gives them lots of material.  He also thinks there is a tremendous amount of humor to owning pets and enjoys laughing with his clients at their pet’s antics and the common bonds that we all share by owning pets and being owned by them!

Scott also enjoys landscaping, “puttering” on various projects, enjoying good movies with his family, and above all else, the rare gift of unscheduled time!

Scott has 2 dogs, a codependent, attention-seeking stalker of a black lab named Jake and a cattle dog mix named Pilgrim who is the sweetest dog on earth unless you happen to drive a brown UPS truck and deliver packages!   He also has two cats named Serendipity and Sahara – both of whom were raised by Pilgrim and have no idea they are cats. Lastly, they have an albino corn snake and a saltwater fish tank-well taken care of by his son, David. His daughter, Rebecca, enjoys horseback riding but, as far as owning a horse, Scott had to draw the line somewhere. He suspects she’ll wear him down eventually though – you know how hard it is to resist that father/daughter thing……

Scott enjoys singing with the band at his church from time to time and takes special joy in playing the harmonica as it is a particularly fun instrument! Lastly he gives full credit to his wife Mary Anne, for teaching him how to speak “Boo-Boo Kitty” and revolutionizing his ability to work with cats!
